Mr. Joseph Starshak

Joseph Starshak has been a principal of Starshak Winzenburg & Co. since March 1991, primarily leading the firm’s public finance engagements for governments and nonprofit corporations. During his tenure, he has been the financial adviser to many prestigious institutions, including The University of Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, and Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Starshak received his Bachelor’s from the University of Notre Dame and earned B.Phil. and M.A. degrees in Economics from Oxford University, before returning to receive his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. Mr. Starshak served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of Captain. Before joining his present firm, he served 16 years in various investment banking areas for The Northern Trust Company.

In addition to his position as Chair of this Foundation, Joe serves on the Finance Committee of Saint Ignatius College Prep and the Real Estate Committee of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago. Previously, he held a mayoral appointment to the Chicago Board of Health, and served as President of the Lyric Opera Guild, Treasurer of The University Club of Chicago, and Finance Chair of Sacred Heart Schools.
