Breda Shelton is a retired Texas Catholic School educator, investor, and philanthropist who makes her home in Arlington, Texas. Through her service to several Catholic institutions, Breda continues the work that she began with her late husband, George P. Shelton III, almost two decades ago.
Breda was raised by a World War II Marine father and along with her mother instilled the values of the Catholic faith, family, and respect for this country at an early age. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Magna Cum Laude) from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. followed by completion of a Graduate School Education Program at the University of California at Riverside. Breda received her California Teaching Certification and embarked on a teaching career. Her first year included working in a public school located in Moreno Valley, CA. outside March Air Force Base.
Breda, George and their two children moved to Texas in 1990. She continued her public school teaching career in Fort Worth, Texas and then 12 years at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School ( Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth) in Arlington. Breda took early retirement in 2005 to provide at-home hospice care for her beloved father.
A few years into retirement, Breda began a new career in nonprofit governance by joining the Fort Worth Academy Board of Trustees in Fort Worth, Texas. The following year she was invited to join the Board of Trustees at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. and has proudly served over 10 years.
In addition to this Board, Breda had served as a past Board of Directors Member of the Bethlehem University Foundation. She currently serves as a Board of Directors Member at the Gingrich Foundation and Catholic Charities Fort Worth.
In this new chapter of Breda’s life, she stays committed to value the transformational power of education, faith development, and hand’s on support to our Military Armed Forces and Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
Breda Shelton is a Bronze Patron of the Saint John XXIII Foundation.
