Members of the Saint John XXIII Foundation’s Board of Directors recently completed their annual pilgrimage to Rome, a tradition that allows Directors to meet the leading voices from across the Catholic community to advocate for the Foundation’s mission. The pilgrimage is centered around the Annual Rector’s Dinner hosted by The Pontifical North American College.
Many co-seminarians and active duty chaplains serving the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) are graduates of The Pontifical North American College, including Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio. The Board’s annual attendance at the Rector’s Dinner honors this longstanding relationship and highlights the Foundation’s enduring commitment to seminarian formation. Rooted in its mission to ensure the long-term pastoral care of Catholics serving in the Armed Forces, patients in Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, and U.S. government personnel serving abroad, the pilgrimage provides a meaningful opportunity to strengthen relationships that advance the Foundation’s mission.
A highlight of this year’s pilgrimage was the participation of newly elected Board member Mrs. Georgeanne McRaven, who joined fellow Directors and guests for her first pilgrimage. She was accompanied by her husband, Admiral William H. McRaven, USN (Ret.), whose presence reflects a growing awareness and commitment to the values central to the Foundation’s work amongst the Catholic military community. This year also marked the first pilgrimage for Mrs. Kathleen Murphy in her role as Chair of the Board. The group took part in a series of engagements in Rome, including a meeting with The Honorable Brian Burch, United States Ambassador to the Holy See.
